Perth motorcycle rider training.

DriveRider provides motorcycle rider training for Ellenbrook, Malaga and Perth area, from absolute novice with no experience, to experienced riders wanting to step up to R class and beyond.  Your training is conducted by a professional Certificate IV instructor to the highest standards of safety and proficiency.  Being able to ride a motorbike is a challenging and exciting pastime, however riders are exposed and vulnerable to other road users who may or may not be as capable as expected.  Our approach is active bike control based on heightened visual awareness and substantial experience with Perth traffic and weather conditions as a motorbike rider. Requirements to undertake motorcycle rider lessons.

You will need a Learners Permit to get started issued from the Department of Transport WA. A Driver's Licence Application and the successful completion of a Learner's Permit Computerised Theory Test (CTT) is the current requirement. DriveRider motorcycle instructor training fees:

 Over the years we have found 2 hour sessions to be the greatest value, from both a financial and skill perspective. 

R-N and R-E Class Training

$140 2 Hours

  • Motorcycle and Helmet with integrated communications provided at no extra cost.

R Class Training

$150 2 Hours

  • Motorcycle and Helmet with integrated communications provided at no extra cost.

Note: 24 hours notice is required when cancelling a lesson. A cancellation fee will be incurred inside 24 hours being the normal lesson fee. We will waive the fee at our discretion.

Western Australian motorcycle licence types.

There are three types of motorcycle licence class with the first two having restrictions. An R Class licence is unrestricted for engine size and power to weight ratio.

Moped (R-N)

R class with an N - Novice condition

A moped is a motorcycle that;

  • Is designed so as not to be capable of a speed exceeding 50 km/h; and
  • Either-
    • Has an engine capacity not exceeding 50cc; or
    • Is not powered by a piston engine.
  • Whether or not it is also capable of being propelled by pedaling, but does not include a power assisted pedal cycle.

Motorcycle (R-E class)

R class with an E - Engine condition

LAMS  APPROVED

A Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) approved motorcycle with an engine capacity not exceeding 660 cc and with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 150 kW/t (with foot or hand operated clutch).

Experience required to upgrade your licence or remove a restriction:

No experience required (minimum age 17 years).

When can you start learning to drive:

As soon as you turn 16 years of age.

Licence authorisation.

If you are authorised to drive R-E class vehicles you may ride any:

  • Motorcycle( with or without a side car) that is listed as a LAMS approved motor carrier.
  • LAMS approved motor carrier.
  • A motor vehicle authorised to be driven by a licence of the preceding motorcycle class.

MOTORCYCLE (R CLASS)

A motorcycle with an engine capacity exceeding 660 cc or a power to weight ratio exceeding 150 kW/t.

In order to gain an R class motorcycle licence, you must have held an R-E class licence for a minimum of 12 months.

Experience required to upgrade your licence or remove a restriction:

Must have held a Motorcycle (R-E class) licence for at least one year.

When can you start learning to drive:

On attaining your restricted motorcycle (R-E class) licence.

Licence authorisation.

  • If you are authorised to drive R class vehicles you may ride any:
  • Motorcycle with, or without, sidecar attachment.
  • Any motor carrier.
  • A motor vehicle authorised to be driven by a licence of the preceding motorcycle class.
